Resources

I cannot say I am self-taught, because the work and publications of so many great artists have influenced my technique and methods. My first light-bulb “aha” moment was watching Daniel Greene’s portrait video, and knowing that finally I had seen a method of drawing that I could do, that made sense to me. Since then, I’ve enjoyed Doug Dawson’s puzzle method, Jerry Hunsinger’s way of using black, the block-in technique, and many other methods. But drawing from the inside out remains my foundation.

Books on painting, pastel and inspiration. I began in pastel in 1993, when only a few resources on pastel were available. Today’s artist is fortunate: pastel has been recognized for its beauty and longevity, and many books are now available.
